Marketing Officer (Maternity Cover)

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, responsible person with excellent communication skills to make a significant impact and market a fantastic charity. We are seeking a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit. Working in a central location as part of a small but dedicated team this role covers a range of tasks and would suit applicants with a flexible approach, an eye for detail and the ability to hit the ground running.
  • Reports to:
    Student Scholarship, Alumni Liaison and Development Fund Manager
  • Accountable for:
    Some supervision of volunteers
  • Purpose of post:
    The positive promotion of Pestalozzi across all areas of its activities
  • Basis of appointment:
    Part time (21 hours per week) – flexible including some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. Option to work from home for up to 2 days per week
  • Contract length:
    12 months (Maternity cover)
  • Salary:
    £23,500 pro-rata per annum

Job Description

Main Tasks
  • Maintain, develop and create content for the Pestalozzi website (WordPress) using monitoring tools such as Google Analytics to improve performance
  • Manage and maintain Pestalozzi’s social media profiles, ensuring that these are updated regularly to engage new supporters using scheduling tools such as Hootsuite
  • Promote Pestalozzi to reach a new audience using social media ads, Google ads and other online and print channels
  • Produce, procure, edit and catalogue a wide range of imagery and video for promotional purposes
  • Maintain and build links with Pestalozzi alumni, gaining support and information relevant to the on-going needs of the charity
  • Oversee the procurement of content, design and editing of the Pestalozzi Newsletter and then organise its distribution, currently twice a year, liaising with external design, print and distribution companies
  • Edit and organise a range of communications for different supporter segments including Pestalozzi eNews (every two months) and supporter campaigns
  • Design and produce marketing materials for Pestalozzi (e.g. flyers, posters and reports), liaising with external designers and printers to find the best value options
  • Build and consolidate local, regional and national media contacts for the promotion of the charity, maximising media coverage
  • Plan, organise and implement fundraising campaigns to increase income for the charity
  • Champion the Pestalozzi brand, consistently embedding Pestalozzi’s ethos, key messages and brand elements in all external communications and promoting brand awareness internally
  • Maintain a sensitive and professional approach towards internal and external contacts, mindful of confidentiality and anti-discriminatory practices

Person Specification

Education
The position requires education to diploma level or above with a relevant qualification evidenced by certificates (e.g. NVQ 4 or HNC, Higher BTEC)
Experience
The person must have a practical and demonstrable record of experience of the following:
Essential
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with a range of audiences
  • Practical and demonstrable experience of marketing through employment or volunteering (e.g. marketing, PR/press, digital and social media, communications)
  • Experience of using Google Analytics and AdWords, Hootsuite (or similar), design software, CRM databases (e.g. Donorfy, Raiser’s Edge, etc.), MailChimp and WordPress
  • Excellent proofreading and copy skills
  • Excellent IT skills in particular Microsoft Office and 365
  • Excellent web-management and social media skills
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent time management
  • Working well as part of a small team
  • Working independently and on own initiative
  • Prioritising and working to deadlines
Desirable
  • Ability to develop copy for multiple use across a range of media
  • Knowledge of fundraising and the use of fundraising tools (JustGiving etc.)
  • Liaising with young people to produce marketing materials (e.g. at a secondary school, university etc.)
  • Knowledge and skills in digital marketing
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Experience of working in the charitable sector
  • Interest in international development through education
  • Clean driving licence
Work Complexity
Semi-routine work, including selection or interpretation of well-defined procedures, with the ability to address problems within broad guidelines. The compilation and collation of routine statistical data.
Supervisory Responsibility
The postholder may have some supervisory responsibility for volunteers.
Financial responsibility
Contributes to the setting of and management of the Fundraising and Marketing budget.
Problem Solving
The post holder must be able to solve problems applying solutions previously learnt and to analyse, evaluate and exercise considerable creative thinking.
Freedom to Act
The post holder must be happy to work within established procedures, exercise discretion in work selection and priority and only refer more serious queries to a supervisor.
Contacts
All Pestalozzi staff are ambassadors for the organisation and are expected to manage external contacts and routine queries appropriately. It is important for the post holder to develop productive relationships with all Pestalozzi staff and volunteers.

A willingness to be flexible is essential.
