Mario (’18) is from North Sumatra, Indonesia where he grew up in a modest family and attended school at SMA Unggul Del. After completing his A levels in the UK, he studied at Grinnell College, graduating in 2022 with a BA in Computer Science and Mathematics.
‘Pestalozzi helped me get a spot at Grinnell, a prestigious liberal arts school. The 2 years I spent with the Pestalozzi community have given me a deeper understanding of what it means to use my head, heart, and hand to serve others,’ stated Mario.
‘I was very fortunate to secure a job at an IT consulting company in St Louis prior to graduation. I returned to Indonesia to visit my family and enjoy a short summer vacation before starting work.
I majored in Computer Science and Mathematics because I wanted to become a programmer, one that writes important software that affects thousands, if not millions, of people. Towards the end of my college career, I became more interested in business. My job allows me to be in both worlds, and I could not imagine a better first job. The core of our business is consulting. This means that other companies ask our company to solve their IT problems, allowing them to focus on their core business. I enjoy what I do and I am thankful for the opportunities to learn new technologies and businesses.
I absolutely would not be where I am now without the help and kindness of others. I was on the receiving end of this process in the past, but now I am ready to be on the giving end. I am working on something to “Pay It Forward”, but am not ready to share that news yet.
I would like to thank Pestalozzi supporters for supporting me and many others like me. Your generosity means a lot to us. Please consider donating to Pestalozzi, so they can continue giving opportunities to future Pestalozzi students to make a difference in the world.
Last but not least, to my Pestalozzi family (students, trustees, and staff), I would love to reconnect with all of you. In the meantime, I hope you are doing well!’
